Are you a good Witch, or a bad Witch?

Shout out to all my "I,d" peeps!!

So much to the surprise of my classmates and Professor, it turns out that I am "Influencing, dominant". Personally, I think it was spot on but I can totally see that most people would have pegged me as "Dominant"... in fact if you could be 'D,d' I'm sure that would have the pre-test consensus.

I'm not sure if I buy tests are a way to measure ones management ability, but I definitely see it as a tool to help people understand personalities. A good leader should be able to read the people, and a great leader is able to adapt. More importantly, I can see it being a tool to help senior leaders predict what kind of management roles someone would excel in. If you have someone who is very analytical they might be better in leading in transaction or technical fields. On the flip side you have someone like myself, a leader in the field of sales/marketing, that would be better in more abstract and creative areas.

What I know is that just because someone is analytical, doesn't mean they can't lead creative people, and visa-versa. I feel that what these test tell us isn't how effective a person may be managing, but what kind of people will they surround themselves with. You might find more 'D' people under a 'D' leader as opposed to a 'C' in ratio. I think an 'I' leader would have the most diverse team... as they can engage people the most.

I've taken dozens of personality tests over the years... Myers-Briggs (I'm an ENFJ), the Platinum Rule (I'm a Relating Socializer), DOPE Personality Test (I'm a Peacock on the cusp of being an Eagle); but none of the tests ever told me something NEW. The thing they all taught me was how to recognize the other personalities around me. Once you're able to do that, and use that knowledge to change peoples behavior, you're golden!

It's been at least an hour since the last time I influenced someone... so I must be off. Until next time; go... manage... lead!

  1. I think that like you said, if most people in class would have had to categorize you, the consensus would have been DI. You’ve clearly shown that side of yourself in the test results discussion, by being the first to stand in front of the class, and taking control of the situation. I also agree with you that the test is not conclusive. I also agree with you that the test is not conclusive. There are so many other things you have to take into consideration when analyzing an individual.

  2. Ya. I agree with yourself and the person above me. You would definitely be Dominating at first. By choosing yourself as a leader and being the first to take that initiative, it was easily displayed that you are in fact an alpha male or in your case an alpha female. In addition, by being the leader you were dominating, and by listening to everyone else's opinion and taking them to account, you are influential, since influential people work as a team.

  3. I like the inspiring ending you had there. But yea I do in fact see you as a very influential person with a very little hint of dominance. The way you handled the decision making class that we had earlier in the semester is spot on as compared to the DISC test. You are quite right however in the fact that these tests help people understand where they stand and help them understand other people as well. The tests shouldn't be used as a sole tool for evaluating a person, but they can in fact serve as a helpful guide.

  4. Personally, I would've guessed one of your traits would be Dominance...as exemplified in the post-exam class discussion. However, I think that people behave more (or less) of who they truly are in a given situation (....does that make any sense?! lol). Based, on what I have observed this semester I would have thought you are more dominant than any other trait yet -- I can see the Influential side now. You are good at voicing your opinion and persuading others to agree with you -- all while not sounding menacing or anything.

I agree with your concluding thoughts, these personality tests don't teach me anything new about myself but they all help me understand the other traits and encourage me to adapt the good traits of the other types.

  5. I agree with you 100% that these tests aren't really there to measure one's ability to manage but a tool that can be used to help individual to understand themselves and overall personalities. I've taken many personality test as well and they don't necessarily tell you nothing new but only help individuals to get a deeper understanding of themselves and their trait.
I definitely see you being more of the influence than dominance from our experience in our 1st post exam class discussions. I'm glad you stepped up front of the room! If you didn't John and I would have taken it over :) LOL!!

  6. I would have actually pegged you as that exact result. I understand why people think you are dominant, but I definently got the impression that you are influencing. You have a very charismatic personality that allows people to be influenced without feeling dominated.

  7. I do not agree with anyone who thinks you are a D... You are anything but a D (I am not just saying this to make up for the "sheesh" in class - neither by saying this I imply that being D is bad)

If I had to guess the category most of the people I know in this class would fall under, surprisingly I think I would have scored well. So I totally agree with you that it is a good indicator to judge the people around you.

I am kinda interested now in taking the other tests you mentioned here in your blog to see what other categories I fall under.

  8. It is no doubt that our class (excluding John apparently) would deem you to be a Di. After the "Decision" class, the professor labeled you as the leader of the discussion and I think that is what most of us in the class picture you as: a Di. And yes, I thought you'd be a Di as well.

  9. You are absolutely a D but with influential powers. You can sway opinions to match yours and have done so on several occasions during our class discussions. You are always the first to stand up and voice what you have to say to the whole class.

  10. Go ID's!! I totally agree on the fact that all this test really does is just help others with understanding someone's personality as opposed to their own, I also didn't find out anything new about myself but certainly was very surprised by discovering other people's personality traits in our class
